Multi-Company Training Programmes

CCNA Routing and Switching Essentials

Programme Overview:
  • The CCNA course helps participants develop the skills necessary to fulfil the job responsibilities of Network technicians, Administrators and Engineers.
  • The CCNA course ‘Routing and Switching Essentials’ is the second of four courses leading to the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) designation.
  • The course describes the architecture, components and operations of routers and switches in a small network.
  • Participants learn how to configure a router and a switch for basic functionality. They will also be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with RIPv1, RIPv2, single-area and multi-area OSPF, virtual LANs and inter-VLAN routing in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks.
Addressed to:
  • IT Security Officers
  • Network Security Engineers
  • Network Engineers
  • Network Administrators
  • Network Technicians
  • Support Engineers
  • Network Specialists
  • IT Professionals
Learning Objectives:
  • Recognise and describe basic switching concepts and the operation of Cisco switches.
  • Identify and describe enhanced switching technologies such as VLANs, VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), Per VLAN Spanning Tree Protocol (PVSTP) and 802.1q.
  • Configure and troubleshoot basic operations of a small switched network.
  • Recognise and describe the purpose, nature and operations of a router, routing tables and the route lookup process.
  • Configure and verify static routing and default routing.
  • Recognise and describe how VLANs create logically separate networks and how routing occurs between them.
  • Identify and describe dynamic routing protocols, distance vector routing protocols and link-state routing protocols.
  • Configure and troubleshoot basic operations of routers in a small routed network.
  • Routing Information Protocol (RIPv1 and RIPv2).
  • Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol (single-area OSPF).
  • Configure and troubleshoot VLANs and inter-VLAN routing.
  • Recognise and explain the purpose and types of access control lists (ACLs).
  • Configure, monitor and troubleshoot ACLs for IPv4 and IPv6.
  • Recognise and describe the operations and benefits of Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) for IPv4 and IPv6.
  • Recognise and describe the operations and benefits of Network Address Translation (NAT).
  • Configure and troubleshoot NAT operations.
